Can your staff articulate the real meaning of human factors?
How far can your teams explore elements of everyday work to problem solve?
What simple questions can we ask to identify improvements in the system?
Can you apply systems-thinking principles to benefit your workplace?
We address these questions, and more, in this interactive online human factors session. There are practical elements and breakouts throughout with delegates adopting a ‘learning teams approach’ centred around a systems-thinking model (SEIPS).
- International Ergonomics Association definition of human factors
- Old vs New View of Human Error
- Systems Thinking
- Introduction/recap on Systems Engineering Initiative for Patient Safety (SEIPS)
- Elements of design including communication protocols
- Local rationality principle
- Application of SEIPS for a problem in your organisation
By the end of the session, you will be able to:
- Articulate a recognised, effective human factors definition that can be used for any application.
- Move from a philosophy of ‘error is a cause’ to ‘error is a symptom’.
- Use a systems-thinking model and systems-based question to explore everyday work.
- Examine high-level aspects of design and the effects of poorly designed communication protocols.
- Articulate the importance of local rationality for staff wellbeing and patient safety.
- Explore a human factors problem using a systems-thinking model.
- Develop an achievable high-level plan to address the problem identified.
This is a half-day session and can be delivered online through a platform of your choice e.g. MS Teams, Zoom etc. As this is an interactive and practical workshop, numbers are capped at a maximum of 20 delegates.
